It is very difficult for sperm to fertilize the female egg. Of the 200 sperm from a man’s ejaculation, 15 to 45 million are healthy enough to fertilize the egg. Within the ejaculation, about 500 sperm survive, and between 50 & 500 sperm reach the egg. Then, only one sperm will be able to reach the center of the egg. It is evidently very difficult for sperm to fertilize a female egg. Yet, a man can be be infertile and there are a number of reasons that this can be.

Possible Reasons for Male Infertility:

  • Birth defects: Some men are born with the abnormalities in parts of their testicle that can prevent sperm from entering into the semen.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases: Some sexually transmitted diseases affect the genitals and can cause infertility with men.
  • Retrograde ejaculation: This disorder, the semen enters into the bladder rather than the penis. A rare case that can be caused by diabetes, medications, or surgery.
  • Immunol problems: The immune system can give issues as to work against the body by attacking the sperm cells and therefore damaging them.
  • Hormonal problems: If the male is hormonally imbalance this may be the cause of male infertility.
  • Sexual problems: These includes Erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation.

Common Reasons for Male Infertility

  • Low Sperm Count
  • Weak Motility of Sperm
  • Inadequate Morphology of Sperm
  • Semen Problems

There are other factors that could possible cause infertility that may not be considered. It can be the man’s lifestyle (bad diet, excessive smoking & drinking), in the man’s genetics, or possibly a physiology issue. These issues are difficult to target when the doctor is not fully informed of the man’s lifestyle.

It is recommended to:

  • Stop smoking cigarettes or marijuana
  • Reduce the amount of Alcohol Consumption
  • Maintain a body weight
  • Exercise moderately
  • Don’t use Steroids
  • Avoid Toxins
  • Decrease Stress
